The National Heat Pump Rebate is backed by an eight-year funding plan. Review the announcement, then plan your upgrade around confirmed eligibility.

Equipment, approvals & combining rebates
The announcement covers eligible electric cold-climate air-source heat pumps and describes pre-approval through an online portal. Final application instructions will govern purchases and installations.
Provincial combination is contemplated, but both programs must permit it. FortisBC’s existing income-qualified program prohibits other provincial or federal rebates. Compare current FortisBC terms.

Partial-home heating: $1,500. No income qualification under this standard offer.
Official eligibilityElectric heating matters. Eligible electric resistance heating must be replaced. Gas, oil or propane backup, existing heat-pump replacements and emergency replacements of broken electrical systems do not qualify for these offers.
Plan before purchasing. Confirm listed equipment, an eligible HPCN installer and the required whole-home heat-load calculation. Apply within six months of the invoice. Income-qualified funding cannot be combined with other provincial or federal rebate programs.
BC Hydro customer? Use the separate BC Hydro or Better Homes BC options below, including income-qualified paths. A FortisBC gas account does not establish eligibility for FortisBC electric rebates.
Income-qualified household limits
Annual household income must be below the applicable limit. FortisBC also requires a qualifying primary home at least 10 years old, no larger than 3,500 sq. ft., and homeowner/account requirements.

FortisBC is studying residential hybrid heating and gas heat pumps. Its pilot page lists expected results in 2026 for several projects, but does not guarantee a new rebate, amount or launch date.

BC Hydro heat-pump bonus: what must happen by October 31, 2026?
BC Hydro says eligible applicants may receive up to $1,000 in limited bonus rebates for a qualifying air-source heat-pump upgrade. To qualify for the promotional bonus, the eligible installation must be completed, invoiced and paid between August 1 and October 31, 2026. A complete rebate application must be submitted by November 30, 2026.
Funding is limited, offered to eligible BC Hydro applicants on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last, and may change or end without notice. The rebate cannot exceed the eligible invoiced and paid cost. Always confirm the current terms with BC Hydro before committing to work.

FortisBC gas-appliance maintenance
Up to $150$50 for one furnace or boiler, $50 for one tankless water heater, and $25 per indoor gas fireplace, up to two. Residential gas customers must apply within 60 days of the service invoice with paid receipts. Storage tanks are excluded.
FortisBC heat-pump maintenance
$50A separate service rebate for eligible FortisBC electricity customers and Grand Forks, Summerland, Penticton or Nelson Hydro customers. A licensed electrical contractor and application within 60 days of the invoice are required.
Replacing electric heating
$1,500–$4,000BC Hydro lists different partial-home and whole-home heat-pump rebates. The existing heating, sizing, approved equipment and Home Performance Contractor Network installer must meet the selected program's rules. Check the separate bonus dates above.
Income-qualified heat-pump upgrades
Up to $13,000Better Homes BC's Energy Savings Program lists enhanced support for eligible ground-oriented homes. Household income, size, property and existing fuel determine the amount. Pre-register and obtain approval before work, then use an ESP-registered contractor.
Condo and apartment heat pumps
Up to $2,250BC Hydro's standard route covers qualifying individual units replacing electric space heating. Receive pre-approval before buying equipment or starting work, and arrange any required strata consent. Income-qualified households should also check Better Homes BC.
Northern fuel-switching options
Up to $6,000 or $8,000The Home Renovation Rebate Program lists up to $6,000 for eligible oil-heated homes and up to $8,000 for eligible natural-gas or propane-heated homes north of and including 100 Mile House. Exact location and program requirements control eligibility.

Is the new federal heat-pump rebate $12,000 for four years?
The October 8, 2026 federal announcement sets out up to $10,000 for eligible below-median-income households and $2,000 for other eligible homeowners, backed by an eight-year funding plan. It is a separate program from FortisBC's existing income-qualified rebate of up to $12,000.
Can I apply for the National Heat Pump Rebate now?
As checked October 9, 2026, the program is upcoming. The official page offers launch updates. Final eligibility, opening dates and any retroactive coverage must be confirmed before relying on a payment.
Can I combine federal and B.C. heat-pump rebates?
The federal announcement allows combination with provincial programs, but the rules of each program still apply. Do not add advertised maximums together: FortisBC's existing income-qualified offer excludes other provincial or federal rebates. Confirm compatibility and approval before work.
Is the FortisBC heat-pump rebate $8,000 for lower-income households?
As checked October 6, 2026, FortisBC lists up to $12,000 for an income-qualified whole-home centrally ducted heat pump, $9,000 for an eligible whole-home mini-split or multi-split, and $5,000 for partial-home heating. The standard program lists $4,000 for whole-home or $1,500 for partial-home heating. These are separate eligibility paths, not combined payments.
Does a FortisBC gas account qualify me for these electric heat-pump rebates?
No. These offers require FortisBC electricity or Grand Forks, Penticton, Summerland or Nelson Hydro electricity, and replacement of eligible electric resistance heating. A gas account alone is insufficient. BC Hydro customers should use BC Hydro or Better Homes BC programs.
What should I check before choosing a heat pump?
Confirm your utility, existing heating, property, income requirements and approved equipment. Use an eligible Home Performance Contractor Network installer. Whole-home projects need a heat-load calculation. FortisBC applications are generally due within six months of the invoice; current terms determine approval.
Are new residential hybrid or gas heat-pump rebates guaranteed to launch?
No. FortisBC describes ongoing hybrid and gas heat-pump pilots that may inform future programs. A pilot is not a confirmed rebate launch. Check the official announcement and eligibility terms before budgeting for future funding.
Is the $1,000 bonus guaranteed?
No. It is an “up to” amount for eligible applicants. Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last. BC Hydro controls eligibility, funding and program terms.
Does the October 31 deadline mean I can apply later?
The eligible installation must be completed, invoiced and paid by October 31, 2026. BC Hydro states that a complete application must be submitted by November 30, 2026. Confirm the current requirements before proceeding.
Can condo and apartment owners qualify?
BC Hydro states that the limited-time bonus also applies to its eligible condo and apartment heat-pump rebate path. Property, account, equipment, installation and application requirements still apply.
Is this the only heat-pump rebate available in B.C.?
No. Other standard, community-based and income-qualified programs may apply depending on the home, current heating fuel, utility, location, household and project. Use the official program tools to check the current path rather than adding maximum amounts together.
